Biology Professor Receives NIH Grant To Study Epilepsy In Fruit Flies

Robert Reenan, Professor of Biology, has been awarded a four-year, $1.3 million grant to study fruit flies in the search for cures and treatments for humans with epilepsy. Dr. Reenan’s method uses “homologous recombination” to create flies that contain similar biological traits to humans who suffer from epileptic seizures, with the hopes that the flies will reveal a genetic secret to curing themselves.
