The Information Security Group has received numerous reports of an email signed by David Swain (firstname.lastname@example.org), supposedly representing the “Brown Collaborative Networks”. Please be aware that the sender has no affiliation with Brown, the “Brown Collaborative Networks” is not an official Brown sanctioned nor initiated effort, and represents an illegitimate use of the Brown trademark.
Should you receive a copy of this email do not enter any personal or business information at the linked website. ISG recommends that before deleting it, open the original copy of the email you received and then click on the down arrow, to the right of the REPLY button, and select “Report phishing.” This will send that message immediately to the GMail Team for analysis and filtering.
ISG also advises that you review the Policy on the Handling of Brown Restricted Information, in particular section 3.1 Access, Storage, Transmission and Back-Up of Restricted Information if you work with restricted or sensitive information.
A final reminder: Do not respond to unsolicited email messages offering services, assistance or requesting personal information. Do not click on any links, photos or videos that may be contained in these messages, as you put yourself at risk of becoming infected or redirected to a malicious site. This warning applies to unsolicited Facebook and other social networking messages, text messages, pop-ups or ads.
