If you use keyboard shortcuts in other programs, you’ll know how efficient they can be.
To get started with keyboard shortcuts in Gmail, just type the question mark key (?). As long as you’re not typing into an email or in the search box, the question mark key will bring up a list of keyboard shortcuts.
At the top of the list, you can see whether keyboard shortcuts are enabled, and a link to enable or disable them.

Depending on your mail management philosophy, you will use different shortcuts. Here are some of my favorites:
- C – compose message
- Shift C – compose message in new window
- R – reply
- A – reply all
- # -move conversation to trash
- / – jump to the search box
- S – star email (continue clicking to rotate through star colors)
