UPDATE on 10/17/2012 at 2:41p.m.: Sophos continues to work towards releasing an updated version of the software which will eliminate the slow launch issues. We will continue to update this BLOG post as we receive more information from Sophos.
ORIGINAL POST: Some Macintosh systems with Sophos AntiVirus version 8.0.7 are experiencing issues
with users logging in, upon login they get a “spinning beach ball” or
the desktop fails to load. Sophos plans to release an update to
address this issue later next week.
If you have a machine with this issue, the work around right now is to remove
Local Hard Disk/Library/Sophos Anti-Virus/Remove Sophos Anti-Virus.pkg
If there are no accounts on your machine that can login, you can boot
the system holding down the shift key to disable extensions/login
items which should allow you to login.
While waiting for the updated version of Sophos AntiVirus you can install and use ClamAV. We will update this blog post when Sophos makes the newest version available to our Brown end users.
Please contact our CIS Help Desk if you need any assistance with the above.
