In parallel with our research and teaching activities, the Leslie Lab is committed to sharing our science with policymakers and the public. Recent efforts include
- Testifying before the Interagency Ocean Policy Task Force in Washington, DC and Providence, RI
- Synthesizing ecological science’s role in the Massachusetts Ocean Plan
- Advising The Nature Conservancy’s NW Atlantic Ecoregional Assessment Science Team
- Advising The Communication Partnership for Science and the Sea
(COMPASS) - Collaborating with the Northeast Regional Ocean Council to move marine spatial planning ahead in the Northeast
Training the next generation of conservation scientists and practitioners
Prof. Leslie is co director of the Voss Environmental Fellows Program, a new undergraduate training program focused on the research, interpretation and communication of science related to environmental change. Partnerships with community and governmental organizations are a core element of this program, and will enable students to develop the scientific credibility, professionalism, and broad understanding of the science-policy landscape needed to be effective contributors to environmental problem-solving in New England and the world at large.
