To conserve energy costs, the Rockefeller Library is the only library that will be open during the holiday break week. The Rock will be open Tuesday, December 27 thru Thursday, December 29, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. All other libraries will be closed from 5:00 pm on December 22 until January 2, 2006.

During the break, Library staff will page requested materials from the Sciences Library for Brown users on a daily basis (December 27-29). (See details at the link above.)
Also, Brown’s extensive collection of electronic journals, books and databases is available 24 hours a day from anywhere in the world with your Brown ID and password. Remember to use se the VPN client or EZProxy for remote access.
We recognize that while classes and exams are over on December 20, your academic work does not stop. Library staff are available to assist you in making your winter break a productive time for your study and research. Library Database of the Week – Humanities International Index
1975-present; Humanities International Index provides indexing and abstracting for over 1,700 journals, including deep backfiles for some of the most important journals in the area of humanities. Includes all data from the American Humanities Index plus materials from international journals, books and reference works. This database provides citations and abstracts for articles, essays and reviews, and original creative works including poems, fiction, photos, paintings and illustrations.
Off-campus users must log in via the VPN client or EZproxy.

Tour the McLellan Lincoln Collection!
On Saturday, December 10th, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., the John Hay Library will be offering tours of its McLellan Lincoln Collection in connection with the Providence Public Library’s new exhibition “Forever Free: Abraham Lincoln’s Journey to Emancipation.” Our companion exhibition, “Broken Chains: Abraham Lincoln and the Legacy of Emancipation in the African American Experience” will also be open for viewing. The Rockefeller and Sciences Libraries will extend hours to midnight on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 9 and Dec. 10 and on Dec. 16 and Dec.17. The John Hay Library will have extended hours on Saturday, Dec. 10 from 1 to 5 p.m. All other libraries will maintain their normal schedules.
In addition, take a break and enjoy some pizza on Tuesday night, Dec. 13 @ 9 p.m. at the SciLi and on Wednesday Dec. 14 @ 9 p.m. at the Rock. Sponsored by Campus Life/Student Services and the University Library.
Library Database of the Week – American Civil War: Letters and Diaries
American Civil War: Letters and Diaries database combines more than 1,000 sources of diaries, letters, and memoirs to provide fast access to thousands of views on almost every aspect of the war, including what was happening at home. The writings of politicians, generals, slaves, landowners, farmers, seaman, wives, and even spies are included. The letters and diaries are by the famous and the unknown, giving both the Northern and Southern perspectives, and those of foreign observers too.
