You are always welcome to take the BrownMed/DownCity Express shuttle to the Brown Sciences Library on the corner of Thayer and Waterman Streets to check out books from the Sciences Library shelves. But if you are Brown faculty, you also can request books from any of the Brown Libraries and have them sent to your departmental office.
When you find the book you want on JOSIAH, click on the book’s title. At the top of the new screen is a button titled “Request This.” Click on it and complete the statement “If the item you want is” by choosing the relevant option, for example “available at Rock, Sciences or Orwig.” Next click on “Request Retrieval,” then enter your Brown username and ID. When the book has been pulled from the stacks and placed at the Library Service Desk, you will get an email letting you know it is ready for you. The email will also ask if you would prefer to have the book mailed.

PubMed Alternative
Monday, December 15th, 2008Even usually dependable PubMed may sometimes experience a brief system failure as it did this afternoon. As an alternative, try searching MEDLINE through Web of Knowledge. WOK can be found in the Medical Connections Database links as well as in the Databases A-Z section of the Library homepage. Click on WOK, then click on the tab, “Select a Database,” then click on Medline.
Stay with the simple search form. Enter your term in the search box and then limit your search by using the drop down box to the right of each search box. Add as many search boxes as you need to describe your topic.
