12/8/09: Students at Brown University and the Rhode Island School of Design are partnering with the Mahatma Gandhi University School of Environmental Science to provide clean water to families in the Kuttanand region of Kerala, India, where 80% of citizens lack such access. They envision rainwater harvesting as a part of a larger mission to improve community health and empower women in the region.
This past Saturday, December 5, their first rainwater harvesting tank (above) was inaugurated, in a ceremony attended by community leaders and members of Mahatma Gandhi University . The Hindu’s article on the inauguration is available here.
