Frontierland/Fronterilandia’s opening scene uses cartoonish animation to introduce themes of state violence against Latino/a subjects, western appropriation of Mexican culture, as well as mestizo cultural elements of the borderlands. Its use of collage references the film’s overall structure of thematically related vignettes. The collage’s collapse introduces questions of Latino/a cultural resilience in the face of militarized division of a common people.[1]
