The 78 women involved in the hunger strike at Karnes wrote a statement contesting their detention, and particularly, the detrimental effects of incarceration on their children.[1] The women, all mothers, reflect on fearing for their lives and seek asylum from violence in their home countries, while refusing to be categorized as criminal.
