In March 2008, the Calexico district hired staffers to photograph students crossing the border and perform routine house-checks, as a result of growing complaints from parents of Mexican residents taking advantage of U.S. resources. The Calexico district later expelled three hundred students who were found to be Mexican nationals, using an anti-immigrant agenda as justification for the policing of students.
