The state education office in Ajo, Arizona fined their district $1.2 million in 2010 for the cost of educating 105 students crossing over from Mexico since 2007. Arizona Schools chief Tom Horne mandated that students now present eligible certificates to enter school buses. This exemplifies how school districts and state actors influence one another in passing and enacting anti-immigration legislation.
