This statement was issued as a response by the students who were rejected entrance to a convention where Governor Ronald Reagan was speaking. The students, and the only Chicano news reporter, were aggressively prohibited from entering the convention though they had tickets. The students’ voices were silenced and their participation in a social and political sphere policed.[1]La Vida Nueva quickly published the statement for the entire community.
