Professor Statement

General Tso’s Chicken is as American as apple pie, half the nation’s 8-year olds practice some “ancient” Asian form of mayhem, and K-pop is still big in Mexico City while Spidey is a political superhero in Hong Kong and Bangkok street protesters flash Mockingjay salutes. In this seminar, we use three spaces of cultural production and consumption, music, food and martial arts to illuminate deep circuits of migration, labor, culture, and popular politics across and around the Pacific.
