Thomas Leppard recording the remains of the Montserrat Golf Course clubhouse, which was originally a warehouse for a 17th-century plantation estate (Old Road Bay Plantation). Pyroclastic flows have destroyed much of the site, and now cover the former golf course and adjacent Belham River. Location: Old Towne, Montserrat, BWI.

Updates 2013-14

  • SLAM was the first Caribbean archaeology project to be awarded NSF-SPARC funding (February 2014). Funds will be used for technical assistance with LiDAR visualizations of the Centre Hills. Award announcement: Click Here
  • SLAM discovers and excavates an 18th-century gun battery in Carr’s Bay. Despite the best efforts of the Montserrat National Trust and archaeologists, Gun Hill was totally demolished in the fall of 2013. The Montserrat National Trust reported on the battery’s unfortunate demolition in their 2014 Newsletter.
