Brown Badmaash Spring Show 2022: TAAJ

Brown Badmaash Dance Company is a completely student-run, South Asian fusion dance team at Brown University. We are open to people of all genders, backgrounds, experience levels, and class years. Each year we proudly produce our spring show, in addition to fundraising, hosting workshops, and competing in national competitions.

Badmaash was founded in 2005 by a group of Brown undergraduate students. They chose badmaash–a Hindi word loosely translating to ‘rascal’–to represent the team’s focus on breaking boundaries by fusing various dance styles and musical genres.

We love dancing new styles as well as revisiting the classics, though our specialty is fusion! In the past we have performed styles like Bharatanatyam, Bollywood, Bhangra, Hip-hop, Raas, Garba–and we’re always open to trying something new! Badmaash is also proud to collaborate with other groups on campus like Ground Breakin’ and Mezcla Latin Dance Troupe, who have taught us so much about styles like breakdance, dance hall, salsa, and reggaeton.

Badmaash also has a competition team that travels around the nation to represent Brown University in cities like Boston, New York, and Berkeley. In recent years, our competition team has attended competitions like South Asian Showdown, Naach Nation, and Bollywood Berkeley. The competition team exists as a subset of the general team; following general auditions, members may choose to audition for a spot on the competition team.
