CareerLAB Welcomes ALL Doctoral Students!

All Doctoral students are welcome at CareerLAB right from their first day at Brown! We advise connecting with us as early possible. Our work with doctoral students includes programs and services for those seeking academic teaching and research positions, as well as for those considering options beyond academia including careers in business, industry, non-profits, communications and media, government, plus many more.

Our services for Doctoral Students include:

  • ½ hour confidential advising appointments with a Career Counselor
  • Walk-ins three times per week
  • Mock interviews
  • Workshops on the academic job search, and the job search in non-profits, business, industry research and government.
  • Resume, CV and Cover Letter reviews
  • Access to Brown Connect, Brown’s on-line alumni network
  • Access to Brown’s non-academic recruiting program, including employer info sessions, Career Fairs, job postings and on-site interviews

Getting started with CareerLAB for Doctoral Students:

  • Activate your Handshake account and complete the career interests so we can send you tailored information regarding opportunities in non-profits, business, industry research and government.
  • Use Handshake to make a ½ hour career counseling appointment to discuss your goals and how to best use your time at Brown.
  • Work with us on an updated CV or resume – distinguish your new skills and experiences.
  • Have a quick question or need a CV, resume or cover letter check? Walk-ins are ideal.
  • Learn about our recruiting program for non-academic opportunities, including career fairs, employer information sessions, hundreds of job postings, and on campus interviewing.
  • Get familiar with Brown Connect, our on-line alumni network, as well as the Brown University LinkedIn Alumni Page
