Finding a Job Outside Academia
While many Brown PhD’s will find tenured faculty positions, there are a variety of reasons this may not be a viable or desirable option for you. You may want a different type of job security or work-life balance; your values, interests or goals may have changed. During the PhD you have gained an array of marketable skills well beyond teaching and research, and whether your degree is in STEM, the Humanities or Social Sciences, there are many careers open to you both within and beyond the academy. You very likely already have the necessary skills you need to to succeed on the job market.
At CareerLAB, we work closely with some students who know from early on in their graduate work that they do not plan to remain in academia or their discipline; but many who decide to leave academia do so later in their careers. Regardless of when or how you come to consider a career transition, we are here to help.
