Silicon Valley and Affirmative Action

Amidst the court cases and discourse, I reflect on my personal experiences growing up in the Silicon Valley and my own contentions with the topic of Affirmative Action. Thinking critically about how my experience is one of many similar experiences, I relate feelings of yearning for validation, recognition, and fulfillment to larger struggles the Pan-Asian American community at large face in a racial state of in-betweenness. Owing to the white-black racial paradigm, as well as historical labels of alienness and unassimilability, the Asian American struggle with Affirmative Action, when simplified, is an attempt to increase Asian American visibility and emerge from a history of exclusion and incarceration in America that is unprecedented.
