The organizations we have chosen to feature, Asian Arts Initiative, Asian American Women Artists Association, Asian American Writers’ Workshop, Center for Asian American Media, Coalition of Asian Pacifics and Entertainment, and Sad Asian Femmes, showcase the diversity of Asian/Asian American talent in artistic spaces that range from visual to literary to digital art. Their work sheds light on silenced narratives, redefines Asian American identity, which the dominant society has obscured or erased from mainstream media in the United States, and builds solidarity among Asian artists. In an attempt to start a conversation about the oftentimes invisible oppression Asian Americans face, we encourage open dialogue as a tool of empowerment and education. These organizations use art to help foster inclusion and awareness of Asian American experiences both locally and across the nation by creating digital and physical social spaces for discussion, increasing accessibility to various populations.
