The report of University Steering Committee on Slavery and Justice can be read or downloaded from http://brown.edu/Research/Slavery_Justice/
The Library has contributed to the work of the Committee in these ways:
- A digital repository of historical documents, prepared by the Center for Digital Initiatives: http://dl.lib.brown.edu/slaveryandjustice/
- A digital collection on the voyage of the slave ship Sally in 1764, the year of Brown’s founding: http://www.stg.brown.edu/projects/sally/ (also prepared by CDI).
- A subscription to the journal Slavery and Abolition, including complete backfile
- There is a small exhibition in the Rock lobby of documents from the collections of the Brown University Library that were examined by the Steering Committee as part of its research. The first case covers slavery in the context of Southeastern New England and contains pamphlets and broadsides from the Sidney S. Rider Collection and the Starred Books collection at the John Hay Library. The second case covers slavery and Brown University, and consists of documents from the Brown University Archives. Digital versions of many of these items are included in the online repository of historical documents listed above.
- There is now a Slavery & Slave Trade page in the Library Resource Guide for American History. You can take a peek here: http://dl.lib.brown.edu/gateway/program.php?programid=30&task=topic&topic_id=114
