In lab this week it felt odd to be given the tools to understand some of the internet but not know I would apply it in everyday life. Before class I thought knowing how information goes over the internet and being able to see where data goes would be empowering. We all use the internet, as seen by reading this post, so learning some background seemed useful and would give me more control than before lab.

As I learned what the IP, mask, and router numbers are and how to run tasks to see where requests are sent and where they go, I felt that I was learning but realized how little I knew about the internet and how it works. In short I felt lost because despite my new knowledge I felt I had no way to apply what I learned. As the lab ended I realized that maybe the internet and the people who program it has more control over me than I knew.
