Marisol

Mari is a Filipina woman living in Taiwan. Trained as a nurse in the Philippines, she currently works as an aide in a nursing home because the wages are favorable. She supports her son and daughter back home, who dream of becoming a fireman and a doctor when they grow up. Mari has worked in Dubai and Taiwan, with hopes of ending up in Canada and applying for naturalization there. Living away from her family in a dormitory owned by her employer is very difficult, and she expressed great emotional and physical hardship in her current position.

Note: Our interview with Mari happened at her site of employment. She requested we contact her personally after our interview, where we were able to speak more freely about her conditions and refer her to local aid organizations that could handle her case.
