Resistance and Activism

How do we organize to protect our communities?

The expanding power and militarization of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in the United States has increased raids and other violent actions against all immigrant populations. In recent years, Cambodians in Rhode Island have been increasingly targeted, incarcerated, and deported under shocking conditions. During the summer of 2018, individuals detained in Bristol, MA went on hunger strike to protest rotten food and contaminated water at the facility. Many Southeast Asians have organized alongside other targeted groups to fight for their right to remain in the country where they’ve built their homes.

If you are interested in the work against deportations happening locally, please look up these organizations: FANG Collective, Alliance of Rhode Island Southeast Asians for Education (ARISE) and the Providence Youth Student Movement (PrYSM).
