Thanh

Thanh is a Vietnamese woman living in Taiwan. She originally moved for better job prospects as a temporary worker in a factory. Since then, her reasons for staying in Taiwan have become more complex. She married a Taiwanese man and started a family, owned two businesses, became a graduate student, and now teaches Vietnamese language classes in a local university.

If I want to apply for naturalization in Taiwan, I will have to give up my Vietnamese citizenship. And if I give up my Vietnamese passport, I will be a foreigner when I go back to Vietnam. And I don’t like that. I don’t like to give up my identity.”
