Today, I wanted to share this article from C|Net’s Solving for XX, called “Bias, not behavior, holding women back.” The gist? A study of a major company showed that men and women in similar positions have the same work habits, yet men in the company are more often promoted than women. This proves that women are not being promoted because of bias, not behavior.
I thought it was an insightful read, and wanted to think about it with the larger group. Part of our mission as a group is to facilitate professional development, both for ourselves and those we work with, as well as respond to conversations about inclusion. Bias is something that can be a roadblock in professional development for women, so what can we do to prevent bias from hindering our own professional development? Any thoughts on this conversation?
